23rd August 2023
Amateur Highland golfer, Calum Scott, has been selected to play in the Great Britain and Ireland team for the amateur golf tournament, the Walker Cup.
Calum, age 19, has been playing golf since he was 7 years old and is currently ranked 35th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. From Nairn, Calum has secured an impressive golf resume while undertaking a golf scholarship at Texas Tech University, majoring in Sports Management.
This season alone Calum finished third in the St Andrews Links trophy competing against golfers of all ages and was invited to play in the Amateur Championship where he finished in the top 35. He also secured sponsorship from Scottish house builders, Springfield Properties to help him achieve his goal of becoming a professional golfer.
Now, Calum is just one of 10 to have been selected to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the 49th Walker Cup tournament.
Taking place the first weekend in September at the home of golf, St Andrew’s Old Course, Calum and his team mates will compete against the USA for the prestigious Walker Cup title.
Calum said:
“It is an absolute honour to be picked to represent GB&I in the 49th Walker Cup at St Andrews. This one feels a little more special as it is being played in my home country. I can’t wait to play in front of everyone and I’m looking forward to competing with my GB&I teammates against USA. It’s been a very good last few years with my golf trending in the right direction each year. It tells me that all my hard work is paying off and I would like to thank Springfield for their support over the last couple of years.”
Springfield CEO, Innes Smith said:
“It’s fantastic Calum has secured a spot in the Walker Cup team. It’s recognition of his hard work and determination for his passion and we’re delighted to help him on his golfing journey. As a golfer at Nairn myself, this is really exciting that a local upcoming player is competing on such an iconic platform. We wish Calum the very best in the tournament.”
